EU Commission Approves Victoza for Diabetes Patients
July 3, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - A diabetes drug called Victoza made by Novo Nordisk has been approved for use in Europe.
The drug is also known as liraglutide and should be ready for distribution in the latter part of 2009.
It was approved for use across Europe despite it having some noted side effects including risk of thyroid tumours.
In the US, an advisory panel split a vote pertaining to whether or not the drug should be approved for use in America.
Despite the approval of the drug in Europe, the company states that their financial outlook for the year will not change.
“The European Commission has granted marketing authorisation for Victoza for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults,” Novo Nordisk said in a statement.
“The marketing approval in Europe does not change Novo Nordisk’s expectations for the company’s financial results for 2009,” read a company statement.
The FDA is yet to make a decision whether or not to approve the drug in the US.
