Boston (DbTechNo) – British health authorities have recorded the first swine flu death in a person without an underlying medical condition.
This means that at the time of death from the virus, the victim was otherwise healthy.
“This death underlines that, although the virus is proving generally mild in most people, it is more severe in some cases,” said Britain’s Chief Medical Officer Liam Donaldson.
The victim haled from Essex, and is Britain’s 15th confirmed death from the swine flu virus.
Britain have reported more than 9,000 actual cases of swine flu.
In a large percentage of swine flu deaths reported to the World Health Organization, the patients also had underlying medical problems that may have contributed to their deaths.
“As with all flu-like viruses, some people are at higher risk than others. Unfortunately, people who are otherwise healthy could also become seriously ill or, sadly, die,” Donaldson added.
