August 17, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning diabetes patients to take a closer look at their blood-glucose test results as they may be inaccurate.
According to the agency, certain blood-glucose test strips called GDH-PQQ strips, maybe inaccurate when it comes to measuring blood sugar levels, leading to patients receiving inaccurate information that could then result in them acting inappropriately relating to giving insulin shots.
The FDA say that if diabetes patients are taking other medications that contain sugars which are not glucose, then they are at risk of receiving inaccurate reading from their strips.
Since 1997, the FDA have received as many as 13 reported deaths attributed to faulty readings from diabetes testing strips.
Diabetes is a very serious medical condition but can be managed in a number of different ways.
The disease occurs when the pancreas fails to produce enough of the hormone insulin, which is responsible for regulating the body’s blood sugar levels.
