Boston (DbTechNo) – Results of a new study show that people who follow the Mediterranean diet have a decreased risk of developing depression.
This interesting study result comes to us from Spanish researchers, and is just another plus for the diet, which is comprised of fruits, veggies, and graines.
The Mediterranean diet has already been proven to reduce heart disease risk, as well as the risk for various cancers.
The researchers discovered by analyzing diets of people that those who followed the Mediterranean diet were 20% less likely to develop depression than those who did not follow the diet.
In total, they studied the diets of more than 10000 people, following them for a 4-year period.
The researchers say that more studies need to be performed to investigate this interesting link between a lower risk of depression and the popular Mediterranean diet.
Their study can be found in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
