The Pill may Dictate who Women Look for in a Mate
October 7, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - Results of a new study suggest that the birth control pill may influence the type of man that women seek for a partner.
Researchers state that the pill may promote changes in what women look for in men, due to the way in which it effects their menstrual cycles.
“While the general trend certainly points to the direction that the pill might indeed affect mate preferences in both sexes in a very intriguing way, we badly need further studies experimentally testing these effects,” said Virpi Lummaa, a Royal Society University research fellow at the University of Sheffield.
Previous studies have shown that what a woman wants in a man frequently changes, depending on the time of the month they are in related to their period cycle.
The birth control pill contains hormones which make menstrual cycles disappear, a fact which can ulter the female mood.
Women on the pill, were found to look for male partners with similar genetic traits, but women not on the pill were more apt to settle down with men with few genetic similarities.
Men have also been shown to be more attracted to women while females are in their most fertile time of the month.
