Nicotine Patch, Losenges Increase Odds of Quitting Smoking
November 3, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - For those smokers determined to quit the habit, results of a new study suggest combining the nicotine patch with losenges maybe the answer.
The Nicotine patch is a favorite of those who are trying to quit, but results of a study showed that when combined with a nicotine losenge, the odds of actually beating cigarettes for good went up.
The study was carried out by researchers from the Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention and the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.
Nearly 1500 smokers took part in the study, in which they were randomly assigned one of 6 stop-smoking aids, and then the results were compared over time.
After 6 months of follow-up, the group of smokers who were given nicotine losenges plus wearing the patch had a 40% quit rate, the highest of all groups.
This interesting study can be found in the Archives of General Psychiatry.
