Boston (DbTechNo) – Results of a new report indicate that the United States lies in 30th place when it comes to the rate of infant mortality.
The report, compiled by the National Center for Health Statistics found that in large part, the rate of infant death in America was contributed too greatly by premature births.
The report found that America is home to a very high number of premature births, which is surprising when you take into account that the country is one of the leaders when it comes to prenatal medical care.
During the study period of 2005, the report found that in the United States, 1 of every 8 babies born were born prematurely.
In comparison, the rate of premature infant births in the European countries of Ireland and Finland, was 1 in 18.
“In 2005, the latest year that the international ranking is available for, the United States ranked 30th in the world in infant mortality, behind most European countries, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Israel,” the NCHS wrote in their report.
I strongly question the validity of this report. Especially considering the source. It does not provide an overall definition of “infant mortality” nor does it indicate the same definition was used for each country reporting their numbers.
This is an irresponsible publication.
