FDA Warns Online Companies Against Selling Flavored Cigarettes

November 6, 2009

Some companies operating online were recently warned by the FDA for selling flavored cigarettes to consumers over the internet
Boston (DbTechNo) - Some companies operating online were recently warned by the FDA for selling flavored cigarettes to consumers over the internet.

The agency recently banned the selling of flavored ciggies in America, but some companies are trying to pull a fast one.

The FDA has sent letters to 12 online companies, warning them of penalties that will be enforced if they do not stop selling the ciggarettes, which come in a variety of flavors ranging from cherry to mint.

According to the FDA, flavored ciggarettes sound more appealing to young people and because of this, more young people are taking up the nasty habit.

“FDA takes the enforcement of this flavored cigarette ban seriously,” Dr. Lawrence R. Deyton, director of FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, said in a statement. “These actions should send a clear message to those who continue to break the law that FDA will take necessary actions to protect our children from initiating
tobacco use.”
