Swine Flu Cases Continue to be Reported

November 6, 2009

According to the World Health Organization, the H1N1 swine flu virus is now the most dominant strain of virus in the world
Boston (DbTechNo) - According to the World Health Organization, the H1N1 swine flu virus is now the most dominant strain of virus in the world.

The agency says that the virus is now responsible for up to 70% of all flu cases, with this percentage increasing daily.

The virus has killed hundreds of people since it emerged in April and has infected hundreds of thousands of people from all corners of the world.

“We remain quite concerned about the patterns that we’re seeing,” Keiji Fukuda, the WHO’s special adviser on pandemic influenza to the director-general, said during a press briefing.

There are now vaccines on the market to protect people from getting swine flu, and drug makers are working around the clock to keep supply at peak levels so that as many people as possible can be vaccinated.

“We anticipate seeing continued or increased activity during the winter period in the northern hemisphere,” Fukuda added.

Just this past week, the swine flu virus was diagnosed in a pet cat from Iowa, and pet owners are now being told to pay close attention to their animals for any sign of flu like symptoms.
