Moderate Exercise Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk
November 8, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - Results of a new study suggest that men who get moderate exercise can actually reduce their overall risk of developing prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men over 50, but because it progresses so slowly, it presents with numerous treatment options.
Researchers analyzed biopsies of 190 men who were being screened for the presence of prostate cancer.
They noted that those men who got between 3 to 6 hours a week of brisk walking, were at a lower risk of developing prostate cancer than those men who did not get a lot of exercise.
Men who did not exercise were found to be 2 to 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer, a shocking finding for sure.
“If you need one more reason to exercise, this could be one,” said senior researcher Dr. Stephen J. Freedland, of the Duke University Prostate Center and the VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
The study is published in the Journal of Urology.
