FDA Requesting Data on Alcoholic Energy Drinks with Caffeine
November 14, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - The FDA have announced plans to investigate whether or not energy drinks containing alcohol are safe to drink.
Up until now, the FDA have only allowed for caffeine to be included as an ingredient in sodas, but it is not approved in alcoholic energy drinks.
College students are very fond of these types of drinks, as they allow for a good buzz, whether it be to prepare for a night out on the town, or for a night of hardcore drunken studying.
“Today the FDA has listed caffeine only as an ingredient for use in soft drinks,” said Deputy Commissioner Dr. Joshua Sharfstein. “The agency has not approved caffeine for use in alcoholic beverages.”
On Friday the FDA sent letters of concern to 30 companies asking them to respond with evidence showing that the combination of caffeine and alcohol is safe.
Certain companies over the last year, have took it upon themselves to stop producing energy drinks with alcohol as an ingredient.
Anheuser-Busch just recently stopped producing their popular energy drinks: Tilt, Bud Extra, and Sparks.
