Boston (DbTechNo) – New guidelines have been released by the U.S. Services Task Force relating to breast cancer and mammograms.
The guidelines are released when new medical information becomes available, but this set has raised numerous concerns.
The guidelines, actually recommend against routine mammograms for women in their 40′s, and critics state that if they are followed, more women will eventually die from the disease.
The new guidelines suggest that women can wait to begin regular mammograms until they are at least 50.
They also state that self breast exams should be done away with, as there is no evidence to prove that they work.
Once past the age of 50, the guidelines stipulate that women should be screened for breast cancer every other year.
The American Cancer Society does not agree with the guidelines, and will continue to recommend annual screenings for women over 40.
