Signs of Heart Disease found in Ancient Egyptian Mummies
November 18, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - Results of a new study suggest that even ancient Egyption mummies may have suffered from heart disease.
This is great news for those lovers of fast food, as back in the olden days, fast food as we know it today did not exist.
It is common knowledge that eating lots of fast food is bad for the heart, which is why we are urged to eat it in moderation.
This unique finding was made by Dr. Randall Thompson, a cardiologist at the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City and colleagues.
They studied mummies that were housed at the Egyptian National Museum of Antiquities in Cairo, performing CT scans on them.
The mummies that were analyzed were from way back in time, dated 1981 B.C. to 334 A.D.
Only 16 of the mummies had actual heart and blood vessel tissue that the researchers could analyze, 9 of which showed signs of heart disease.
“What our new findings tells us,” says researcher Gregory Thomas, MD, “is that atherosclerosis has been around since before the times of Moses.”
“Atherosclerosis is not just a disease of modern times,” he added.
