Autism Cases Increasing in American Children

Results of a new study suggest that up to 1% of American children are living with autism
Boston (DbTechNo) – Results of a new study suggest that up to 1% of American children are living with autism.

Previous research had indicated that 1 in every 150 children born would develop the condition, but recent numbers show that the rate of diagnosis is on the rise.

The study was performed looking at data on American children aged 8 years of age and found that 1 in every 110 was living with autism.

Autism is a condition of the brain, resulting in difficulty for the child to interact socially due to the impaired development of communication skills.

Generally symptoms of the condition appear before a child reaches 3 years of age, but the condition is not diagnosed until quite some time later.

The CDC study found that boys were much more likely than girls to be diagnosed with the condition, and that white children were also much more prone to the condition.

“Some of the increases are due to better detection, particularly among children who may not have come to attention in the past — including girls, Hispanic children and children without cognitive impairment,” stated study leader Catherine Rice.
