Arena Pharmaceuticals Submits Weight Loss Drug Application to FDA

Boston (DbTechNo) – It is being reported that Arena Pharmaceuticals have submitted an application for approval to the FDA for their new weight loss drug.

The drug, called lorcaserin was shown in clinical trials to be very effective when given to overweight patients, helping them lose over 5.5% of their bodyweight after 1 year of use.

The drug was compared against a placebo, with results proving without a doubt its effectiveness when it comes to helping people lose weight.

The weight loss market is huge business in the United States, and because of this shares of Arena rose by more than 3% upon news of their FDA filing.

If the drug is given the green light from the FDA, it would be the first prescription drug for weight loss to be approved in the last 10 years.
