Drinking Green Tea May Fend Off Lung Cancer in Smokers

Results of a new study find that smokers who drink green tea can reduce their risk of being diagnosed with lung cancer
Boston (DbTechNo) – Results of a new study find that smokers who drink green tea can reduce their risk of being diagnosed with lung cancer.

According to the study, antioxidents found in green tea may provide a protective effect in smokers when it comes to the development of dangerous cancer cells in the lungs, even in those people who are already at high risk due to family history of the disease.

The study was performed by I-Hsin Lin, a master’s degree student at Chung Shan Medical University in Taiwan.

She and her colleagues recruited 170 people with lung cancer and more than 300 healthy people for their study.

The participants were surveyed regarding their lifestyle habits, including how much they smoked, and how much green tea they drank.

The results showed that those who did not drink green tea regularly were 5 times more likely to develop lung cancer.

The findings were to be presented at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer meeting in Coronado, Calif.
