Boston (DbTechNo) – When it comes to the rate of obesity in America new figures indicate that over the last few years the percentage of fat people in the country has held steady.
Currently approximately 1 third of American adults are overweight, with many of them falling into the obese category.
Numbers from 2007 and 2008 reveal that the rate of obesity in the country is leveling off, a good sign for sure.
Numbers show that 34% of Americans are not just overweight, but obese, along with 17% of children living in the country.
When it comes to reducing the rate of obesity in the country, a healthy diet plus exercise is being touted as the way to go, yet millions of people ignore healthful advice, and continue to live sedintary lifestyles, costing the government millions of dollars annually in weight related medical bills.
“The obesity trend appears to be slowing down, but the prevalence remains high and continues to be a critical national health concern,” says Cynthia Ogden, an epidemiologist with the National Center for Health Statistics.
Being overweight or obese is very bad for one’s health and puts a person at extreme risk of serious medical problems ranging from diabetes to heart disease.
The report can be found in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
