Boston (DbTechNo) – A new study finds that parents of young children tend to have on average, lower blood pressure than married couples or single adults without kids.
This study is a direct slap in the face to the traditional belief that children increase stress levels of couples, due to the constant need for attention, support and nurturing.
The study was carried out by researchers from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and California State University-Long Beach.
The researchers recruited 198 adults between the ages of 20 and 68, and monitored their blood pressure very closely.
Researchers then compared their findings, pertaining to adults and couples without children, those with children under the age of 2, parents with teens and parents with children over the age of 18.
On average, those adults with children scored 4 points lower on blood pressure readings than those adults without any children, numbers that did not change despite taking into account the age of the children.
The study is published in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine.
