Few American Seniors Getting Necessary Vaccines

Results of a new study suggest that the majority of American seniors are not getting the recommended number of vaccines
Boston (DbTechNo) – Results of a new study suggest that the majority of American seniors are not getting the recommended number of vaccines.

As we age, our bodies become more susceptible to infection thus it is very important to get vaccines whenever possible to protect against various forms of illness.

According to a report released by the Trust for America’s Health, last year only 1 third of Americans over the age of 65 received the pneumococcal vaccine which protects against pneumonia.

The numbers varied overall from state to state, with the lowest immunization record being reported in the District of Columbia where only 55% of seniors received the vaccine.

Other vaccines that are readily available but are not being distributed include tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis.

One reason that could be to blame for the lack of seniors and adults getting vaccines is the common belief that “it will never happen to me.”

A condition like pneumonia can be very dangerous if it strikes a person with other health problems, thus getting the free vaccine is a great idea.
