Results of a new study show that germs located in the gut maybe to blame for obesity.

According to researchers, these germs may promote inflammation in the stomach area, which can modify one’s appetite levels.

The more a person eats, combined with a sedintary lifestyle the more weight they gain, and thus you have the American obesity epidemic in a nut shell.

The researchers stumbled upon this study finding while performing research on mice with colitis.

“Previous research has suggested that bacteria can influence how well energy is absorbed from food, but these findings demonstrate that intestinal bacteria can actually influence appetite,” said study leader Andrew Gewirtz of Emory University in Atlanta.

“The obesity epidemic is driven by people eating too much, but why are people eating more?”
