Health officials are warning that as winter returns to the Northern hemisphere cases of swine flu could once again pick up.
Over the last few months cases of the virus have dropped off, prompting many European countries to sell their supplies of swine flu vaccine to developing countries.
Since the virus was first identified back in April of 2009, the WHO have documented 16,226 deaths from the H1N1 pandemic virus.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Europe is not likely to experience another swine flu pandemic, but the virus will probably be the dominant strain of flu next flu season.
“It seems unlikely that there will be another spring/summer pandemic wave in Europe unless there are significant unrecognized uninfected populations or
the virus changes and becomes more transmissible,” the ECDC said in a statement.
The WHO have not lifted the pandemic level as of yet, but due to a drastic reduction in cases being reported they probably will in the near future.
