FDA Adds Blackbox Warning to Leading Blood Thinner Drug Plavix

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued an updated warning for patients taking plavix, a leading drug prescribed as a blood thinner.

The drug, according to the agency is not able to be processed by some patients, a fact that can put them at serious risk of severe health problems.

Patients taking the drug whose bodies can not process it are at a major increased risk of having either heart attacks and or strokes both of which can be fatal.

To determine if you are a patient who does not respond to the drug, there is a genetic test that you can take, state the FDA.

Patients currently taking plavix are advised to consult their doctors to make sure that they are on the correct form of blood thinner.
