Women Taking Birth Control Pills May Out Live Those Who Don’t

Results of a new study suggest that women who are taking the birth control pill as a form of contraceptive may out live those women who never take it.

This is an ironic finding as the purpose of the pill is to prevent new life, yet it might actually prolong the lives of the women who take it.

British researchers tracked up to 46000 women beginning in the 60′s, following them for up to 40 years.

They compared the amount of deaths in those who initially reported taking the pill to those who did not take it, and found that those who did lived longer quite a lot of the time.

Those who took the pill for more than 4 years, were up to 38% less likely to die from bowel cancer and 12% less likely to die from other diseases.

The study is published in the British medical journal,.
