Boston (DbTechNo) – A new heart clip from Abbott is in the news as it has been proven to be just as effective as surgery when it comes to reparing leaky heart valves.

The little clip is threaded through an artery into the heart, opposed to open heart surgery, and appears to be just as effective as surgery but much safer.

The device is called the mitral valve repair device and Abbott plans to file for FDA approval of it based on these positive study findings.

The device was compared to surgery to see if it was as safe and as effective as the latter at mending leaky heart valves.

In patients who received the clip, 9.6 percent suffered major adverse events, compared to more than 57 percent of patients who underwent surgery.

furthermore, there were no deaths reported in the group of patients who received the clip.
