Boston (DbTechNo) – Betrixaban is the name of a new blood thinner from merck that performed very well in a clinical trial of 508 patients.
The blood thinner, still in its experimental stage was compared in a trial with a leading drug already on the market, and outperformed it in many aspects.
The drug was compared with warfarin in patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, and not only did it appear to be safe, but also very effective.
Atrial fibrillation is characterized by an irregular heartbeat, and can be very serious as it can lead to stroke.
When it came to incidents of serious bleeding, there were fewer serious incidents in patients taking the Merck drug than those taking warfarin.
More clinical trials are being set up to validate this positive study finding.
