Boston (DbTechNo) – A painkiller called salsalate has been shown in a clinical trial to be useful for type 2 diabetics to congrol their blood sugar levels.

salsalate is in the class of drugs known as anti-inflammatories, and is a popular drug in the treatment of arthritis.

Researchers wanted to determine if treating diabetes patients with salsalate could benefit them in the ongoing battle to find better drugs to treat the condition.

Patients were assigned to either receive a placebo or salsalate so that researchers could determine whether or not the drug was helpful for type 2 diabetics.

Those who took salsalate showed a lower average blood sugar, and had an easier time keeping it low compared to those who took the placebo.

The researchers published their study in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
