Deep Brain Stimulation Reduces Seizures in People with Epilepsy

Results of a new study suggest that deep brain stimulation may help people who have epilepsy
Boston (DbTechNo) – Results of a new study suggest that deep brain stimulation may help people who have epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that results in frequent seizures which can cause temporary unconsciousness, convulsions and other severe health issues.

This procedure involves implanting electrodes into the brains of people with the condition, and monitoring them very closely.

The electrodes act like a pacemaker for the heart, sending out electric impulses to certain parts of the brain.

In the study, 41% of participants who underwent brain stimulation had a vast reduction in their seizure frequency after 13 months of treatment.

It is estimated that more than 50 million people worldwide are living with epilepsy.
