Gays and Lesbians Often Excluded from Clinical Trials

March 18, 2010

According to the findings from a new report, gay men and women maybe purposely excluded from many clinical trials
Boston (DbTechNo) - According to the findings from a new report, gay men and women maybe purposely excluded from many clinical trials.

The report, developed by three scientists from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia can be found in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine.

Obviously this is not sitting well with gay rights groups, and rightfully so as in many cases, there is no known reason for excluding gay people from participating.

The report states that there are many clinical studies of drugs that require that participants be in a “reciprocal relationship with a person of the opposite sex.”

Some studies cited in the report are to test the type of drugs that would be used by anybody, gay or straight.

Should any action be taken against drug companies for not giving gay people the opportunity to participate in clinical trials?
