The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued a consumer warning for Zocor, a blockbuster cholesterol drug.
According to the agency, Zocor has been linked to cases of severe muscle weakness and kidney damage in its highest approved dosage of 80 milligrams
The drug is approved for use in many doses, beginning with 5 milligrams and going up to 80.
The FDA is basing this new warning on feedback attained from clinical trials of the drug, and reported side effects from users.
Merck manufactures the drug, which is also a component in another Merck cholesterol fighter, Vytorin.
