Cancer Vaccine Could Protect Us From The Disease

Cancer is one of those diseases that we are yet to have a full proof cure for but this maybe potentially changing in the very near future. Researchers from the Cleveland Clinic say that they have been able to come up with a vaccine that when given to mice, prevented cancer from developing.

In the study, researchers gave some mice the vaccine wich contains á-lactalbumin and gave other mice a vaccine minus the antigen. All of the mice had been genetically designed to be prone to developing breast cancer. The results were incredible as none of the mice vaccinated with á-lactalbumin developed breast cancer, while all of the other mice did develop the disease. The researchers say that the next step is to perform a study on humans.

Cancer is a disease that can strike at the drop of a hat, coming in an array of different forms which have led to the development of many different treatments ranging from chemotherapy to actual drugs that are approved to treat certain forms of the disease. This new vaccine that has been developed would be a world first, as the research team says that it actually prevents the disease. It works by targeting a type of protein that is responsible for most tumors, suppressing it thus not giving tumors a chance to grow.
