Sunscreen May Cause Skin Cancer

Putting on sunscreen is supposed to protect us from skin cancer but new research indicates that it may actually increase the chances of the disease being diagnosed.

An ingredient found in many leading sunscreen products may actually cause skin cancer, a shocking finding of multiple studies performed by government researchers last year.

This finding is shocking to say the least, as for years health experts have drilled it into our heads that wearing sunscreen outdoors is manditory to prevent sunburns and risk of skin cancer.

One such study, which the FDA has had in their possession since 2009 found that the rate of tumors and lesions in mice covered in this sunscreen ingredient went up compared to mice not covered in the ingredient.

The ingredient in question here is known as retinyl palmitate, a Vitamin A derivative that’s in most of the 500 most popular sunscreens on the market.

“With the recent reports suggesting a possible link between skin cancer and a common chemical found in sunscreens, the FDA must act now to protect consumers,” said Senator Charles Schumer.
