Artificial Pancreas May Soon Be An Option For Diabetes Patients

An Artificial pancreas maybe the next big weapon when it comes to treating people who are diagnosed with diabetes.

Diabetes occurs when the pancreas is unable to function properly to produce a hormone called insulin which works in the body to regulate blood sugar levels.

Diabetes patients are forced to rely on insulin injections to help regulate their blood sugar, but scientists say that an artificial pancreas may soon be a possibility for these patients, thus negating the need to self medicate.

What exactly will the device offer patients who qualify to use it?

First of all it will continuously monitor blood sugar levels in the body, come with an insulin pump so patients can provide their body’s with insulin and even come with a computer system to make it work automatically.

So far the device has proven effective, as patients have been able to control their blood sugar levels up to 70% of the time up considerably from previous studies.
