Diabetes Drug Proven To Be Dangerous

Another pair of studies have proven that the diabetes drug Avandia made by GlaxoSmithKline is dangerous for the health of those who take it.

The drug has been proven to raise risk of heart attacks and strokes in patients but for now, the FDA continues to allow it to be sold in America.

There is a pile of evidence suggesting that the drug is dangerous but so far the FDA has dragged their feet on this issue, despite Avandia’s maker GlaxoSmithKline even bringing it to their attention.

“Although hyperglycemia has been associated with an increased risk of microvascular adverse events, there are now 12 classes of drugs that are approved to lower blood glucose levels, including insulin,” the researchers said.

“Because no unique benefits of rosiglitazone use have been identified, administration of this agent solely to lower blood glucose levels is difficult to justify.”

An FDA panel is finally set to meet in two weeks to discuss the future of the drug, and if they have any sense they will recommend for its removal from the market.
