It appears that despite attempts to educate Americans about the benefits of eating healthy, few are listening as obesity rates continue to rise.
Results of a new report show that the rate of obesity is up in as many as 28 states, and the rate of children dealing with weight issues is even increasing.
The survey found that in many cases, parents of overweight or obese children believed that their children were actually of a healthy body weight when in actual fact they are not.
Out of the top 11 states when it came to obesity numbers, 10 of them were in the south, with the state of Mississippi leading the way for the 6th year in a row.
In as many as 40 states, the obesity rate was higher in blac and hispanic Americans than in whites, and the less money a person made, the more likely it was that they would have weight issues.
“Obesity is one of the biggest public health challenges the country has ever faced, and troubling disparities exist based on race, ethnicity, region, and
income,” said Jeffrey Levi, director of Trust for America’s Health.
