Prostate Cancer Screening Saves Lives

Results of a new study prove that without a doubt screening for prostate cancer does reduce the death rate from the disease.

This study finding appears to be a no brainer as it is no miracle fact that checking men for prostate cancer as they age can have a huge effect pertaining to whether or not they survive it if they are diagnosed.

Swedish researchers analyzed health data of 20,000 men, half of whom were subjected to prostate cancer screening, the other half were not.

Over a 14 year study period, the death rate from prostate cancer was reduced by half in the group of men who were given prostate cancer screening tests compared to the other group.

Although it seems obvious that screening for prostate cancer would save lives, the problem lies with many cases of men being misdiagnosed, resulting in them undergoing unnecessary treatments.
