An outbreak of cholera is sweeping across the African country of Nigeria, killing hundreds in its path.

Over the last three months more than 350 people have died from the cholera infection and as the rainy season continues there is no slow down in sight.

If this is not bad enough, the health ministry is also stating that there is a mini outbreak of the measles virus in the country as well.

Cholera is a fast moving waterborne infection that results in severe diarrhea for somebody who is infected with it, leading to dehydration and even death in some cases.

In total the health ministry have received reports of more than 6400 cases of cholera since June and it has been detected in 12 of the country’s 36 states.

They are blaming this outbreak on the fact that there has been a lot of rain this year, which has helped spread the infection into communities without proper toilet facilities.
