On Friday a federal appeals court ruled that the MMR vaccine does not raise the risk of a child developing autism.
This is bad news for more than 5500 parents of children with autism, who claim that vaccines are to blame for their children developing the condition.
They had saught compensation under the government’s Vaccine Injury Compensation Program and last year a special vaccine court had ruled against them.
Friday’s decision was a direct blow to one family, the Cedillo’s who had sued after their child Michelle developed the condition after receiving a measles vaccine at 15 months of age.
In its ruling Friday the appeals panel said “we have carefully reviewed the decision of the special master and we find that it is rationally supported by the evidence, well-articulated, and reasonable. We, therefore, affirm the denial of the Cedillos’ petition for compensation.”
