When it comes to the rate of survival from cancer in the country of Canada new research suggests things are looking up.
A report released by Statistics Canada suggests that survival rates for a number of different forms of cancer are improving based on a five-year relative survival ratio.
Cancer treatment options have come a long way over the last 10 years, and with the advancement in treatment and diagnosis that has been made being diagnosed with the disease is no longer a death sentence.
Some of the cancers that saw a jump in survival rate included pancreatic, thyroid and certain types of skin cancers.
The report also found that young cancer patients are now much more likely to survive their disease than their older fellow Canadians.
“Compared with people without cancer, those diagnosed with cancer are predicted to have about three-fifths the probability of surviving the next five years,” the agency said.
