Human Rights Lawsuit Filed Towards Yahoo
August 28, 2007
Boston (dbTechno) - Yahoo is facing a lawsuit which accuses the US media giant of aiding and abetting human rights abuses in China.
The lawsuit states that Yahoo supplied information on dissidents which led to them being sent to prison.
Yahoo and MSN China signed off on a code of conduct for blogging operations just last week. This would force them to protect the interests of China as a state.
They both agreed to delete any “illegal or bad messages.” Google has been a victim to this already as they have been accused of blocking certain data which would be harmful or derogatory towards the government of China.
The lawsuit in place right now was filed in San Francisco by the World Organization for Human Rights. The wife of Wang Xiaoning filed the suit as she states that Yahoo helped Chinese officials track down her husband with e-mail and online comments.
Yahoo is trying to get the case thrown out.
