Honda To Begin Leasing Fuel Cell Cars In California
November 15, 2007
Sacramento - Honda Motor Co. has made the announcement on Wednesday that they are going to begin leasing teh cars of the future, fuel cell cars, in California. The first car will be the new FCX Clarity hudrogen-fuel-cell-powered car.
A limited number of Southern California drivers will be able to lease this car this coming summer. The price point for a three-year lease will be $600/month.
Honda did not release any specific number as to how many of these cars would be leased.
Honda also announced that they are hard at work on a home-fueling station. This will use the existing natural gas supply in the home to produce hydrogen. Honda already has a working fueling station on its research camp on Torrance.
Ford Motor Co. President and CEO Alan Mulally stated they are 10 years away from offering such technologically advanced cars.
General Motors Corp. announced it will put 100 fuel-cell cars on the road starting next year in California, New York, and Washington D.C.
In these types of hydrogen fuel-cell cars, hydrogen combines with oxygen. This happens in the fuel-cell stack of the car. Energy from the reaction is then converted into electricity which powers the car. The only emission is water, making it very environmentally safe.
