Microsoft’s OOXML Likely To Get ISO Approval
March 31, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - It is believed that the Redmond, Washington software giant Microsoft will have their Office Open XML set as the ISO standard.
It has yet to be confirmed but Microsoft seems very confident that OOXML will be approved.
Microsoft needed to get a certain number of votes to allow it to be approved, and they apparently managed to do just that.
The final vote count will not be added up until later in the day on Monday.
Even critics have come out and stated that it seems like OOXML will become the ISO standard.
Microsoft has been pushing for this for over a year now. Their argument has been that since Microsoft Office already dominates on the desktop across the world, it only makes sense to have OOXML as the official standard.
An approval would also make Microsoft Office as the hcoice of many governments around the world as well, bringing more cash Microsoft’s way.
There is no confirmation as of yet, but it could now be just hours away.
