Cablevision Wins Appeal, May Progress With Network DVR

August 5, 2008

Cable provider Cablevision has managed to win their appeal in a U.S. court, and now has the right to move forward with their network DVR service......Washington (dbTechno) - Cable provider Cablevision has managed to win their appeal in a U.S. court, and now has the right to move forward with their network DVR service.

Cablevision has been hit hard by entertainment studios, who have been stating that the company’s plan for a network DVR set-up violates their copyrights.

The DVR is called Remote Storage Digital Video Recorder, and is a bit different than traditional DVRs.

Cablevision will be setting up servers, which users will have full access to over their set-top box.

This gives DVR access to any subscriber, without forcing them to actually buy into the box.

The U.S. Court of Apeals of the Second Circuit in New York ruled in favor of Cablevision, and their new service.

This reverses a decision reached by in March 2007 by a lower court.
