He stated that soon, students will be carrying everything that they need in a tablet PC. They will no longer have to carry around any type of textbooks, or notebooks. All of these tools will be right in the tablet PC.

Gates stated that the schools his daughter is attending, is already using this new technology.

With the cost of new computers continuing to drop, the tablet PC could end up being a cheaper solution than buying textbooks considering the price of books.

He predicts that this trend could really start to take over within two to four years.

Gates also stated that he supports the federal government, hoping they will approve the use of extra communications airwaves to expand broadband internet access to parts of the country where there is none.

Gates is hoping for the white spaces spectrum to be opened up, so WiFi can “explode.”

Gates, who spoke with Microsoft’s Chief Research and Strategy Officer Craig Mundie, together stated that the white spaces spectrum could be huge in expanding broadband access.
