YouTube Banned Again, This Time In China

March 17, 2008

YouTube access has been blocked again in another country, this time in China. The Chinese government has blocked access to the video-sharing web site YouTube after 20 videos appeared on the site in regards to the protests in TibetBoston (dbTechno) - YouTube access has been blocked again in another country, this time in China. The Chinese government has blocked access to the video-sharing web site YouTube after 20 videos appeared on the site in regards to the protests in Tibet.

The videos showcased the protests in Tibet. These protests took place last Friday in the capital, Lhasa.

The protests were shown opposing the Chinese government currently in power.

China has also, beyond YouTube, been trying to block news reports about the protests as well.

It is clear that China wants as little of the public as possible to know about the opposition.

The videos were apparently of reports and images from the actual protests.

This is a huge blow to YouTube as there are 210 million internet users in China.

This comes after other incidents where YouTube has been blocked by a country, including Pakistan and Turkey already.

No word on if or when YouTube will be back online in China.
