April 17, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - The creators of the Web series Lonelygirl15, Miles Beckett and Gred Goodfried, have launched their own production company called EQALl. EQALwill focus on what they call social entertainment, and already has $5 million to work with thanks to funding. They will continue to produce Lonelygirl15 as well as KateModern..
The new company EQAL, pronounced “equal” will work with independent content creators as well as more mainstream media companies to produce social entertainment.
The entertainment is going to focus on a community being built around the actual production.
Lonelygirl15 was a great example of this, with a major fanbase on both YouTube and MySpace.
The main character, Bree, was believed by many to be a real person for quite some time. She was actually played though by actress Jessica Rose.
The creators also are responsible for KateModern which was showcased on Bebo.
EQAL will have both KateModern and Lonelygirl15 hosted on LG15.com. They have already raised $5 million in Series A from Spark Capital, as well as other investors.
EQAL will work to produce different versions of its shows for different countries, all of which will be distributed via LG15.com.
