Facebook Connect Makes Users’ Profiles Portable On The Web
May 10, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - It did not take long for Facebook to come out with an announcement to counter the MySpace announcement of Data Availability. Facebook has announced a similar feature with Facebook Connect, which will allow users to take their profiles and use them on any site on the Internet.
Facebook Connect was presented by Facebook’s senior platform manager Dave Morin on the developer blog.
The new service is going to allow Facebook users to take their profiles and use the data in them on any Web site.
This means people will be able to take their photos, friends list, groups, etc. from Facebook and use it all on other social sites. These sites who support Facebook Connect will allow users to then login with their Facebook names and passwords.
Morin stated “We believe the next evolution of data portability is about much more than data. It’s about giving users the ability to take their identity and friends with them around the Web, while being able to trust that their information is always up to date and always protected by their privacy settings.”
There is no word yet on which sites will connect up with Facebook Connect.
