June 18, 2008
Hollywood (dbTechno) - It took some time, but it has been ruled that the Spam King, Scott Richter, along with his Web marketing company Media Breakway LLC must pay MySpace $6 million. The money going to MySpace will be in the form of retributions.
The company was accused of spamming MySpace users with advertisements, among other things.
The total damages were calculated to be at $4.8 million, with $1.2 million being in trial fees.
The court decision stated that the Spam King and his company must pay back the $6 million to MySpace.
Media Breakway, his company, has also been banned from the social-networking site.
The spamming was done by making users think they were invited by friends on MySpace ot visit an advertising Web site called consumerpromotionscenter.com.
The $6 million is only 5% of the total amount MySpace wanted, $230 million.
