Obama Taps Genachowski As New FCC Chairman To Replace Martin
January 13, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - The Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin Martin is soon to be replaced by Julius Genachowski.
President-elect Barack Obama has reportedly chosen Genachowski as the new head of the FCC.
Genachowski has worked as an advisor in the past to two FCC chairmen, both during the Bill Clinton presidency.
He is a former classmate of Obama at Harvard Law School, and has been an advisor to Obama for quite some time now.
If Genachowski is made officially the new FCC chairman, the job ahead is not an easy one.
Work will have to be done quickly to figure out how to manage the switch from analog to digital TV set for February 17, 2009.
There have been talks about possibly delaying the switch, but current FCC chairman Kevin Martin has made it clear another delay would cause mass confusion.
