Apple iTunes Store Grows To No. 2 Music Retailer In U.S.
February 26, 2008
Hollywood (dbTechno) - Apple iTunes continues to grow as it is now the number two music retailer in the United States, right behind Wal-Mart. The new revelation comes from market research firm NPD which has shown just how much the iTunes Store continues to grow in popularity in the U.S.
The report has shown that there has been a decrease in CD sales as more and more young music listeners are turning to iTunes as their source to buy music.
Apple now has over 50 million iTunes Store customers and has sold over 4 billion songs.
The NPD stated that 48% of U.S. teens did not purchase one single CD in 2007, compared to 38% in 2006.
They stated that the number of teens has switched over to the digital front, which has caused the iTunes Store to grow even further.
Not all is good though as they saw a 19% spike in peer-to-peer file sharing. They also saw an increase in the number of downloads.
Legal downloads from the iTunes Store made up 10% of the total music acquired in the U.S. though in 2007, which is great news for Apple.
Sales of CDs may be in a steep decline, but the iTunes Store continues to grow, making music more and more popular to buy in digital form.

I wouldn’t purchase anything with Apple or Mac’s name on it…not even a digital song!
Soon, time will tell why Steve only has 8% of the computing market as well as the end of iTunes is very near! Steve can’t sell what he doesn’t own and the labels are not treating him very good at the moment, which isn’t expected to change anytime soon.
