Microsoft Working On Apps For Apple iPhone, iPod Touch

March 26, 2008

A massive ice shelf has collapsed in Antarctica. The British Antarctic Survey stated on Tuesday that global warming is to blame. They also warned that another massive ice shelf is Boston (dbTechno) - According to reports, Microsoft is working on apps for the Apple iPhone. Microsoft has apparently assigned a team to work with the iPhone software development kit to create software. The apps will run on both the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Tom Hibbons of Microsoft’s Specialized Devices and Applications Group stated that they are excited to develop software for the iPhone.

They believe that they will be able to build on the iPhone and IPod Touch, adding functions currently not available to users.

This is an interesting turn of events as Microsoft and Apple are known more as rivals rather than two companies who work together.

In this case though Microsoft seems to be very interested in what they will be able to accomplish on the iPhone.

Microsoft has quite a long history of cooperating with Apple (starting 1996, when Apple was almost bancrupt and really glad to receive financial help and a MacOffice coming from Redmond). I personally don’t think it is a big surprise that MS starts supporting the iPhone/iPod Touch with applications. We’ll see what the outcome will be - hopefully more than a word/powerpoint/excel viewer kind of thing.
